Write about your most special holiday memory.

Prompt Response:  It was New Year's Eve, and everyone was outside at the family dinner table while I was inside the house with my godbrother, watching horror movies. He just came back from his trip to Mexico and brought my favorite cookies to eat as we watched the horror movie. We never really liked being in loud and crowded areas, and he was one of the few to understand that with me. Despite this difference between us and the family, I truly enjoyed spending time with one another rather than being in a large group.  Summary: Today, I read letters 26 and 27 from The Color Purple.  Reflection: As more time passes by, there is like a love triangle going on between Celine, Avery, and Mr.___.  Avery is becoming more gentle with Celine and still makes fun of Mr.___ despite his interest to her. Though Avery is feeling much better, she still wants to stay with Celine.

Write about the best gift you have received.

Prompt Response:  The best gift I ever received was an alternative-sized doll of an American Girl doll. I remember writing my letter and specifically asking for a doll to look like me. Over the years, there were many dolls made with darker skin tones, and I knew American Girl dolls were expensive, but I never really knew how expensive they were. I was about 7 years old when I asked for this, and every time my mom and I would go to any toy section at a store, I would always try to take a glance at the dolls when passing by the section. And that very morning at Christmas, there it was. The doll sitting under the tree. I remember seeing the skin tone of the doll and also having its extra pair of clothing to dress it up. This was truly a gift that 7-year-old me would never forget.  Summary: Today, I read letters 20-25 The Color Purple. Reflection:  I think due to all the trauma Celine has gone through, she is unfamiliar with and even questioned why she feels such a way...

Write about a song that brings back a specific memory.

Prompt Response:  The song "All Your Love" by Jacob will always follow me till today. This song specifically reminds me of when I got into music and expanded my taste. But most of all, this song reminds me of the time I met the nicest people in my 6th-grade year during the Georgia Milestone. I was always a quiet student in my classes and would be speak only spoken to. It was when the whole class had assigned seats for our testing day, and there were 2 girls and a boy who were already in a friend group and decided to talk to me. From then on till the end of the school year, we laughed and would play games on our phones to pass the time.  Summary:  Today, I did discuss questions from letters 18-20. Reflection:  Throughout the questions, it is important to communicate and understand one another. Celine's jealousy gets the best of her and advises Harpo to beat Sofia due to her confidence. It wasn't until Sofia noticed and confronted Celine. Sofia was not angry whe...

Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response:  When I was a child,  I believed in Santa. I truly did believe that once I went to sleep at night, he would come by my house and drop off my presents. My parents always told me that Santa goes through the front door instead because he's too fat for our chimney.  Summary: Today, we asked questions on The Color Purple.  Reflection:  The questions were a way to reflect on how relationships can be fixed, and if so, how? There will always be misunderstandings or miscommunication with someone or the person you most love. For it to continue or become stronger, I believe it is best to understand the other perspective and communicate with one another so there is no bad interpretation.

Describe a time you couldn’t stop laughing.

Prompt Response:  A time I couldn't stop laughing took place in my 2nd grade classroom. I don't remember what joke my best friend made, but I only remember the feeling. I was gasping for air, but she continued to add to the joke, and it only made it harder for me to breathe. My stomach was tightened for how hard I was laughing, and I began to create tears from my eyes. In the end, the two of us ended up getting in trouble and got silent lunch, but I think that just made it funnier for the both of us.  Summary: Today, the class presented their 2-minute presentation on the letter from the book "The Color Purple." Reflection:  I think the story from Celine's perspective is truly sad. Although this is fictional, it really creates an image and harsh feeling for the readers. You get a better understanding of what the character is going through and how her father, who is supposed to protect her, turns out to be the person who is less protected and doesn't care for ...

Write about a fear you have overcome.

Prompt Response:  A fear I've overcome is trying. One thing I am scared of most is failure, but it prevents me from trying other things or harder-level subjects. I always end up doubting whether or not I can do something. But, a person was able to encourage me to take a chem class in dual, and I made sure to try my hardest when tests were coming up and to complete my work.  Summary: we continued to create the 2-minute video. Reflection:  Throughout the presentation, we were able to create clips and choose the science that best describe the letter we were given. Creating colors, times, and quotes will help others understand what is happening in the letter and feel what the character in the story is going through.

Write about an unforgettable meal.

Prompt Response:  I was at a Chinese buffet, and I ate a baby octopus without knowing it. I just was fried calamarry, but it turned out it was fried baby octopus, and it was not appetizing for me. For the rest of lunchtime, I couldn't stop thing how rubbery it was and how its a baby. And I ate it.  Summary: Today, we were introduced to. A new app to create a presentation video. Reflection:  I think learning and brainstorming the video was able to dig deeper into the letter and understand what the character is going through. The themes I was able to come up with for the video were: fantasizes get the better of us, keep your siblings close, and value school.

Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

Prompt Response:  Right now, I can't stop thinking about my final exams for my dual enrollment classes. More specifically, my chem final. I'm upset that my professor is so old and it's to the point it's hard for him to teach, and he isn't able to understand what he saying or doing in the class. Many others are as confused as I am, and I just think it's time for him to retire.  Summary: We continued to read the book The Color Purple. Reflection:  Celine is now married to a man that she is unfamiliar with, but her father lets it happen because she doesn't care for Celine and only sees her as a mother figure to take care of a child or house. It's really upsetting how situations like these can happen in real life, and some girls don't have the freedom to really choose who they would want to be with or whom to marry in their life.

Describe a situation where you had to find strength despite feeling weak.

Prompt Response:  I was a sophomore who just got out of the hospital after getting surgery on my intestine. I was already having trouble recovering, having to get back to my nutrition, walking, and getting on track with my schoolwork. I didn't mind doing all the work to get back to my old schedule, but it was a week before finals, and I've missed 2 months of school already. Having all the work piled up was stressing me out, and despite the passing of my uncle, it made it even harder.  Summary: Today, we continued the reading of The Color Purple. Reflection:  The character, Celine, begins to try and protect her younger sister as she doesn't want anything bad to happen to her. She begins to fantasize about her escape away from her father so she and her younger sister can be safe and still continue with their education.

Write about a conversation that changed you.

Prompt Response:  A conversation that changed me was when I was talking with a friend I had since elementary. We talked about how different it would be when we had to move to different middle schools and were no longer able to see each other every day. We'd always questioned how we'd be once we grew up, but now we were able to have that same conversation about a month ago. Just seeing how much we've grown and are about to graduate from high school. It's crazy how time flies.  Summary: Today, we went over some new vocabulary.  Reflection:  The introduction to the book, The Color Purple was strong. It truly has strong details from the main characters' perspective and what they have gone through at such a young age. Throughout the letters, context clues would have to be used due to her spelling and grammar.
